Sligo Chamber launched a year-long celebration of its centenary in January with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the entrance to Lyons Café on Quay Street where its first statutory meeting was held.
To mark the occasion, the Chamber’s board members dressed up in clothing that would have been typical of the attire worn by men and women in Sligo in the 1920s.

In preparing for the celebrations a Centenary Committee comprising of Chair Conor McCarthy, Geraldine Courtenay, Aidan Doyle and Catherine Maguire met every fortnight for two years to research the archive and write the commemorative articles.
Aidan Doyle, CEO of Sligo Chamber, said: “On this centenary day, we remember those founding members whose vision and commitment created and established Sligo Chamber. We are also thankful for those who in the intervening decades have worked to fulfil the dreams of the founding members and to hand off a strong legacy to all of us who now expand their vision across the region.”
